Our story
To empower people to create impact, and help communities grow.
When relationships are built on aligned values, collaboration becomes natural and culture begins to shift.
Feifei Liao, co-founder
Community organisers carry a lot. Group chats turn into noticeboards. People come once and do not come back. Funding is short and the work is lonely. BetterActs brings these organisers together so they can learn from each other, share members and resources, and find partners and funders who understand their communities.
We are still shaping the ecosystem with the people who use it. We start small, test one clear pathway, and grow what works.

Where this comes from
Years of gatherings before BetterActs.
Exhibitions, podcasts, zine nights, festivals and panels across Melbourne and regional Victoria taught us what makes people come back: a warm invitation, a creative task, food, and someone who remembers your name.

How we decide
Governance
Guided by our founders, alongside BetterActs Collective Inc., an incorporated not-for-profit with its own board.
Joining
Community creators and our facilitator review EOIs against shared values. AI may help summarise, a person decides.
Groups
Group admins manage their own members within shared community rules.
Feedback
We ask after every gathering and change things because of it.
Community guidelines
Every group agrees simple rules for chats and gatherings: take turns, stay on topic, invite rather than pressure, respect every identity, and tell an admin or info@betteracts.com if something feels wrong.
Acknowledgement of Country
BetterActs acknowledges the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung people of the Kulin Nation, the Traditional Owners of the land where we meet and work in Naarm (Melbourne), and the Yorta Yorta people, on whose Country our regional work in Shepparton took place. Sovereignty was never ceded. We pay our respects to Elders past and present and to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in our communities.
